The problem with most resource packs these days is that they focus too much on bumping up the resolution. Certainly, you get improved visuals but at the cost of game performance. Out of all of them, only a handful make it worthwhile to sacrifice framerates for visuals. The alternative is to go back to simpler packs such as Jolicraft resource pack that attempt to improve textures, lighting, and the overall vibe of Minecraft without exaggerating when it comes to resolution. The Joliecraft resource pack manages to preserve the overall vibe of Minecraft, keeping it cartoonish but with new textures, vibrant colors, and a certain charm that is difficult to describe. Veteran players should be familiar with Jolicraft. The resource pack was originally released in mid-2012, making it over a decade old. Surprisingly, the project has not yet been abandoned by the developer. Known as Andrethejolicoeur, the developer only has Jolicraft as a Minecraft project with no other resource packs released. Having just one project to manage can be a positive aspect as his attention is most only on Jolicraft. This translated into constant updates released throughout these years. This also lead to millions of downloads across several sites where it has been released. Also, despite having over a decade of development invested into it, the Jolicraft resource pack is available at no cost to all players. The name of the resource pack and the alias of the developer are good indicators of what to expect. Inspired by the French word jolie which translates into lovely, the Jolicraft texture pack truly has lovely and nice-looking visuals. It manages to improve Minecraft in so many ways without bumping up texture resolutions or using photos to make everything more photorealistic. It remains cartoonish but with more vibrant colors. Once you install Jolicraft, the first thing you notice is that the grass and leaves are of a more vibrant green, crop fields are golden, sand is light beige and water textures use a lighter, more cheerful chromatic.
Most textures in the game have been altered for the better by either replacing them with completely new ones or tweaking existing ones. It is not a complete resource pack meaning that there are still some things left untouched but you will have a difficult time finding them. Amongst the many visual improvements, you can also spot new textures for brick walls, wood, crops, ores, various types of terrain, different building materials, and more. All these changes are complemented by new textures for mobs and creeps and some new player textures. You get to see new textures for wolves, dogs, sheep, pigs, and chickens but also for mobs such as zombies, skeletons, spiders, and more. Lastly, the Jolicraft pack makes a considerable effort to reimagine inventory menus, player HUD and the crafting bench. The inventory menu now looks like a sheet of paper with a simple spacing of items and sections. A similar treatment was applied to the crafting menu. Also, the player HUD was been changed. You get a new health bar, item slots, and more. All these visual improvements, and there are many of them, are achieved without increasing the texture resolution beyond 16x. Also, the resource pack does not touch upon lighting or shadows, and yet it still manages to achieve stunning visuals. However, it does change some sky textures. The sun and moon now have a much more cartoonish look to them. If you are worried about game performance, the Jolicraft resource pack should not pose a major problem. The 16x texture resolution makes it so that the resource pack is not particularly taxing when it comes to game performance. If you want a resource pack that is light and runs well, Jolicraft may just be it. Despite being an RPG-oriented resource pack, it can also be a good choice for PvP players. If you want to take its visuals to the next level, you should consider installing a shader pack. However, it would be recommended to use one that does not change sky or water textures as they will take away from the beauty of Jolicraft and its cartoonish Sun and Moon.
